Introduction in English
Hello everyone. I’m Natsuo Kimura, director of Shibuya Kimura Clinic, Urology, Dermatology, and General Medicine. This time, I would like to introduce myself.
First of all, I am from Honjo City, Saitama Prefecture. For junior high and high school, I went to Kawagoe High School via to Josai University in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture. I was the student council president in both junior high and high school. My club activities were the Go Shogi Club in junior high school and the Brass Band Club in high school. So, it’s a joke to say that it’s a gymnastic system. The commute to school was almost two hours, so I remember reading novels on the train. I graduated from Kawagoe High School via Josai University in 1999.
One of the reasons why I wanted to become a doctor was that my house was right next to the hospital. My grandmother was often admitted to the hospital. I was always hospitalized when I got sick, but when I was discharged from the hospital, I became interested in medicine when I saw how well I was doing. One day, my grandmother’s health suddenly took a turn for the worst. Seeing my grandmother unconscious and motionless, I was completely helpless at the time. I tried my best to get my grandmother, who was unconscious, into the car, but it was difficult for me to do it alone, so I vividly remember calling my mother to help me. From this experience, I wanted to be able to save people someday, which is why I decided to become a doctor. I am still involved in emergency medicine, and there is no doubt that this experience has had a great influence on me.
As for my career, I graduated from College Of the Desert in 2005, a community college in the United States (equivalent to a junior college in Japan). After that, I transferred to an American university and graduated from the University of Southern California in 2008. After that, I was involved in auditing as an assistant accountant in the United States for less than three years, until 2010. However, I couldn’t give up on my dream of becoming a doctor. At that time, I learned that medical school has a system that allows you to transfer. In particular, I learned that Tokai University allows you to transfer from the second year after graduating from the university. I returned from the U.S. in July 2010 and took the second-year transfer exam at Tokai University in September 2010 and passed. During my five years of medical school, I studied clinically at a university called Wake Forest University, where I studied infectious diseases, emergency medicine, and plastic surgery. As for my career as a doctor after graduating from medical school, I first did my initial training at Kumagaya General Hospital in my hometown of Northern Saitama Prefecture. My grandmother was helpless when her condition suddenly deteriorated, so I worked especially hard at this hospital to train mainly in emergency medicine. The doctors of internal medicine, surgery, and orthopedics spared no effort and taught me carefully, so my foundation as a doctor was laid here. After that, I started and completed my second semester training in urology at Kameda General Hospital in Kamogawa City, Chiba Prefecture. During the second semester of training, I had to train at another hospital for at least six months, and I went to a place called Asahi Central Hospital in Asahi City, also in Chiba Prefecture. There, I wrote clinical papers and actively presented at academic conferences, and eventually I was even given the position of chief medical officer. Meanwhile, the director of a distant relative’s clinic in Hyogo Prefecture passed away suddenly, and the clinic was closed for one year. It was a clinic that lasted for 30 years, and it was a clinic that was very loved by the locals, so I helped rebuild the clinic until a close relative of the director took over. After that, I returned to the Kanto region, and on June 1, 2025, I opened the Shibuya Kimura Clinic Urology, Dermatology, and Internal Medicine.
As for my passion for medicine, I thought that urology would be a good fit for me, where I can listen to and treat problems that patients usually have difficulty talking about, especially those around the pelvis. I decided to pursue a career in urology. In addition, urology has come to want to actively respond to diseases that have become popular in recent years, such as sexually transmitted syphilis, medical infections, and prostate cancer, which is expected to increase in the future. In addition, there are many options for treatment, not just curing the disease, so I have come to think that I would like to provide treatment that takes into account those that have few side effects and those that can maintain the quality of life of patients. One of my areas of expertise is prostate cancer, and I have published papers on prostate cancer (Kimura et al. Urol J. 2023 Jul 26; 20(4):222-228. The paper discusses a hormone drug for prostate cancer, but one of the side effects of a drug called apalutamide is a skin disorder. Research on how to reduce skin disorders has also been featured as an article in a medical journal called the Medical Tribune. We will continue to do our utmost to contribute to the development of medicine and patients.
Our philosophy is to value kindness and compassion, and to provide medical care that is close to the patient’s mind and body. In order to achieve this philosophy, we will make a promise to our patients as follows: (1) We will strive for sincere medical care. Sincere medical care means listening carefully to the patient’s complaints, carefully examining and explaining to the patient, and sincerely learning new medical knowledge. In addition, it is also a department that listens to treatment around the pelvis and things that are difficult to consult with people, so (2) we will give maximum consideration to privacy. In addition, since each patient has different treatment goals and desired treatments, (3) we will provide the most suitable treatment for each individual as much as possible. In addition, we will keep the clinic clean and ventilate regularly, etc. (4) Provide a comfortable clinic space. In addition, I would like to provide total medical care to patients from various perspectives, such as urology, dermatology, and internal medicine, so (5) I will treat patients from a wide range of perspectives. Also, for everyone who comes to Shibuya, (6) I would like to connect with the community and continue to grow together. This is what we promise to our patients.
My hobby is songwriting because I was in a brass band and band when I was in high school. In fact, my YouTube also has hidden songs that I wrote and composed, so please look for them if you have time. I also enjoy playing shogi. I’ve been playing since I was in the Go Shogi club in junior high school, but recently I tried to see how good I was, and I received a diploma for 3rd dan shogi. However, it takes a tremendous amount of time to play shogi during the medical treatment, so even if you apply for a game during the medical treatment, we will not be able to accept it. One of the hobbies I recently started is bouldering. I also have a video of me doing bouldering on my Instagram. Running is also a hobby that moves the body. I have also run two full marathons (the best record is 4 hours and 6 minutes for the Tateyama Marathon).
As for my vision for the future of medical care, I would like to expand the medical care that can be provided at the clinic. For example, if there are more surgeries that can be performed on a day trip, we will incorporate them more and more. And now that IT technology is advancing, I would like to promote online medical consultations as much as possible. For example, you may have a fever and want to visit a clinic, but it may be difficult to move your body. It is reasonable to actively use online medical consultation for such patients and receive medical examinations from the comfort of their homes. If the number of doctors and nurses working at our hospital increases, we may be able to contribute to depopulated areas through online medical care. In addition, the clinic has a small turnaround, so I would like to actively incorporate advanced medical care.
Finally, with the aim of providing medical care that walks together with patients, we will continue to listen sincerely to their complaints and continue to study every day so that we can respond to their future medical needs. In addition, we aim to be a clinic that walks together with patients in the Shibuya area, so if you have any problems, please come to Shibuya Kimura Clinic Urology, Dermatology, Internal Medicine.
